The rotor can take the form of a winding-filled cylinder, or a self-supporting structure comprising only the magnet wire and the bonding material, areused widely in miniaturized applications where size is of a premium but performance is not.Owing to their light weight and lack of a iron/steel core, they can provide huge power to weight ratios and thus enhanced accelerations often reaching a mechanical time constant under one milli second.
